Great technology & software for people of all abilities and ages

Smartphone technology can be a powerful support for the help needed to live your life. Applications such as these can make a real difference

  • Be My Eyes App – does exactly what it says. The app connects people with vision loss who need assistance with sighted volunteers via a video connection.

  • National Relay Service (NRS) App – the NRS app helps people with hearing loss make phone calls. It features various call options, such as the ability to text and read speech, speaking to your friend but reading their responses on your screen, and signing your conversation over Skype to be translated by a Relay Officer.
  • Speechify Text Reader App – turn anything you want to read into an audiobook to help you focus and retain more info. The developers say the app was designed to help people with disabilities such as dyslexia, ADHD, and low vision.
  • Wheelmap/Wheelmate Apps – accessibility for wheelchair users is vital. Wheelmap is an app which rates places like bars, restaurants and cinemas for their accessibility, while Wheelmate is for locating wheelchair-accessible bathrooms and parking spots.
  • Medication Reminder & Pill Tracker App – great way to keep track of everything in one place, from your medications to your moods and even your weight, so you can more closely follow your doctor’s recommendations.
  • Find my iPhone App – potentially saves you from running all over the house trying to find your phone. It helps you to locate your phone quickly and easily. It even lets you lock it remotely in case you lost it in a public place.
  • Song Quiz App – plays clips of songs from across genres; players then have to guess the song and artist, competing against other players. It’s a great app for a family/social/therapeutic get togethers
