Smartphone Apps for Travelers Living with Disability

As the holiday season approaches and COVID numbers in Australia decrease, domestic travel is on the rise. For people with disability and their carers, the following five apps may help you get around this Summer.

  • Magnuscards – is a game-based learning app that helps people with autism, ADHD, Down syndrome, dementia and other cognitive special needs prepare for new experiences and build confidence. It has an entire section on travel-related experiences and allows you to create tailored card decks for specialised tasks.
  • Where is Public Toilet – finding a public toilet can be a matter of urgency in a new location. This handy app provides a map based on your location that shows all the public toilets around you, taking the stress out of exploring.
  • DH Chat – allows deaf and hearing people to communicate face-to-face without the use of a sign language interpreter. Using a speech to text translation system and Bluetooth, communication is fast, simple and doesn’t need WIFI or data.
  • Braci – uses the phone’s microphone to listen to sounds that might be important, such as fire alarms and doorbells, and then alerts the user through vibration and visual cues. Handily, it can also be customised to identify specific sounds.
  • Seeing AI – is an iOS app designed for people who are blind or experience low vision. It uses the phone’s camera to create an audible narration of what it ‘sees’. It can be used to provide descriptions of scenes, read text, differentiate colours, identify currency and can be even programmed to recognise specific people.

Double Up Your Care!

Hire Professional carers to receive up to 8 hours of free extra care.
The program will run for 4 weeks in February 2021.

We know that the COVID-19 virus presents significant challenges and concerns for our clients and their families. InPlace Care have instigated many new operational actions to protect clients in the community.

OUR RESPONSE

WHAT WE HAVE DONE

  • Keeping our Carer community up to date with regular updates and new clinical operational procedures relevant for the best protection of their clients and themselves
  • Refreshed our Training documents for Hand Hygiene to recognize the COVID-19 recommendations
  • Continued our administration services and functions by supporting staff to work remotely, as well as other options that best suit individual staff circumstances.

WHAT WE ARE DOING

  • Keeping the InPlace Care community up to date with clinical advice that best support good practice in the provision of Home Care services
  • Implementing measures to mitigate an outbreak, including measures around health, hygiene, and general wellbeing of the community.
    Continuing to plan for potential scenarios and impacts to ensure the safety of our clients and carers.

The Inplace Care worker visiting your home is taking the necessary measures to ensure you say safe.
This includes following advice from Australia’s Chief Medical Officer about when to use equipment such as masks, gloves, aprons or gowns, and protective eyewear.
Most importantly, look after yourself and keep safe.

The promotion conditions are:
  1. The maximum FOC care in February 2021 is 8 hours of Care per individual Client when you book and pay for 8 hours of care
  2. limited to the first 10 Clients that take it up

The program will run for 4 weeks in February 2021.
The promotional FOC Care is only redeemable for new Clients that register and receive Care in February 2021.
